StewardshipSt. Mary's is a substantial organisation that meets in a large and expensive to maintain church building. It has an annual budget of nearly £200,000, almost £4,000 per week! This is a significant undertaking and is largely dependent upon the sacrificial and gracious support of church members and worshippers. Biblically, Christians are asked to give a 'tithe', a regular share of their income, toward their local church. The Church of England has set 5% of net income as the guideline for churchgoers in the UK. Some, however, will wish to give significantly more than this. If all church members gave this percentage of their net income, we would be able to meet our budgeted income target each year. An offering is taken during each service, however this only brings in a small proportion of the funds. Those who are tax payers are encouraged to use the Gift Aid envelopes, so that tax can be reclaimed. Most of the support is provided by regular standing order. It is better for planning and administrative purposes, that those who regard St. Mary's as their spiritual home give by monthly standing order. For tax payers, Gift Aid can be reclaimed directly by the church.
