Mission to Wider WorldSt. Mary's has a long history in supporting overseas mission. At present, we support the following six societies: Bible Society, 'CMS' (Church Missionary Society), Church Army, 'CMJ' (The Church's Ministry among Jewish people), 'SAMS' (The South American Mission Society) and Tearfund. Each year we hold a Missions Gift Day, set a target (currently around £8,500 per annum), and allocate the final sum raised (including Gift Aid) equally between the six societies. The six societies have all been supported by St Mary's for many years. We also support Christ Church, Madras and Anglo-Indian Concern. The work in these areas is amongst Anglo-Indians who suffer deprivation and poor job opportunities and aims to improve their lives and provides grants to needy families. We have also recently formed a link with St. Timothy's in Accra, Ghana which is a relatively recent church plant in an area predominantly populated with Muslims. |
