Relations with Community and Wider ChurchSt. Mary's seeks to maintain a high profile in the local community and are actively involved with local schools, the local youth centre and local nursing homes and care organisations. The church is part of Croydon Central Deanery and good working relationships exist within the Chapter of clergy, which has a wide spread and breadth of churchmanship. There are two other parishes in the Addiscombe area which have enjoyed good relations with St. Mary's over the years (St. Mildred's and St. Matthew's). St. Mary's is part of the Churches Together in Addiscombe, comprising: Roman Catholic (Our Lady's, Bingham Road); Methodist (Christchurch, Lower Addiscombe Raod); United Reformed Church (Addiscombe Grove); Church of the Nazarene (Lower Addiscombe Road); and the three Anglican Churches, St. Mildred's (Bingham Road), St. Matthew's (Park Hill), and St. Mary's. St. Mary's has historically played and continue to play an active part and we give it our full support. There are particularly good ecumenical relations and co-operation with the local Methodist church. We also are in contact with the local Baptist church. There are ecumenical Lent groups and occasional shared services, including joint services for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in mid-January and on Advent Sunday. Ministers meet regularly together. The Vicar is well connected with Croydon ministers, who meet for breakfast from time to time. Main role is to care, listen to and support people (mainly young) in the evenings and early morning in the town. Croydon Citizens Against Trafficking Concerned to raise awareness and work against the trafficking of women in to the sex trade.
